a few months in lavender
A few months in lavender time have passed since we last posted!
We had a busy summer with a fantastic crop of Grosso, the oil has great scent already. Our Pacific Blue was a little less prolific but that reflects the hard pruning we gave it last year. Again the scent is already maturing and taking on some great notes, probably reflecting the hot summer
We have been busy reorganizing our fields with a bigger emphasis on Pacific Blue. Thanks to Geoff and our friends at Manakau Nursery. We now have some 2,000 baby Pacific Blues to plant this Spring.
If you haven’t tried our Pacific Blue yet you should! Its born and bred in New Zealand, unlike our European import, Grosso.

Whats new in the world of lavender? Check out some of the latest research here. Essentially the article talks about recent trials which bring us closer to clinical use of linalool ( commonly found as major component of essential oils such as lavender) to relieve anxiety.
An example can be found in surgery where pre-treatment with anxiolytics can alleviate preoperative stress. This helps to place patients under general anesthesia more smoothly.
Vaporized linalool could also provide a safe alternative for patients who have difficulties with oral or suppository administration of anxiolytics, such as infants or confused elders.”
