Snow falling on lavender

August is often the coldest time of the year, and today we have it – snow falling on lavender.
The blast from the south was well forecast with snow even appearing on beaches in and around Christchurch/Otautahi.
Our lavender was pruned in Autumn so should be able to withstand the air temperature of 3C pretty well.

As we move into winter, it is another busy period on the lavender farm. While the bulk of our pruning is complete,we still need to complete some further light pruning.
We are way behind on hand weeding with warm temperatures resulting in a lot of new grass growth – and more work!

Pacific Blue is always first with the first hints of purple just starting to develop.
Grosso has some big buds this year but flowering will be a few weeks later than Pacific Blue.

The nights are cooler, the leaves are turning – we must be heading into Autumn.
We completed our harvest of Gosso late in February, but still achieved a high yield and excellent quality. This years oil will sit nicely in the fridge for a year or so as the aroma and notes change and shift.
