You know it’s the first signs of Spring when the grass starts to grow. September is that month when the air temperature typically starts to rise above 10C, to around 15C.

The continuing, and consistent, rise in temperature means is something all life on the farm begins to recognise. The kereru (native pigeon) migrate from the remaining native forest high up on the hills that surround us. They are here to feed on the first shoots of the willows and the snow-white flowers of the tree lucerne.  The grass starts to shoots (and needs to be cut) and if you’re a keen observer the first flowers of Pacific Blue might be discerned.
